Our Story

Every child is born with creativity. But not every child is given the opportunity to discover it. In many communities across America, arts programs disappear from schools long before a child’s potential does. Instruments become luxuries. Art supplies become unaffordable. And creativity, one of the most powerful tools for confidence and self-expression goes unexplored.

Bill and Wilma Rogers, the founders of the Music & Arts Program for Youth (M.A.P. for Youth) saw this gap clearly. They saw talented children with imagination, rhythm, stories, and ideas yet no access to the resources that could help those gifts grow. Instead of accepting this reality, they chose to change it.

In 2010, they planted a simple but powerful idea: Every child deserves access to the arts. That idea became the Music & Arts Program for Youth, Inc. (M.A.P.), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

What started as a small initiative to introduce children to music and creativity quickly grew into a nonprofit movement dedicated to empowering youth through music, visual arts, storytelling, character, literacy, and leadership development.

Through M.A.P., children receive more than instruments or art supplies. They receive something far more powerful:

  • Confidence: a child who has never held a violin performs on stage.

  • A voice: a shy reader discovers the power of storytelling.

  • A sense of belonging: a young artist sees their painting displayed publicly for the first time.

  • The courage to dream bigger futures: youth who can now envision themselves getting paid to do what they love. These moments change lives.

Today, M.A.P. continues expanding opportunities for youth to explore creativity, express themselves, and discover the unique gifts already inside them. Because when a child discovers their creativity, they often discover their future. And sometimes… all it takes is one program, one mentor, and one opportunity to change the trajectory of a child's life. That is the mission of the Music & Arts Program for Youth, Inc.

"The City of Alachua is proud to announce our partnership with M.A.P., reflecting our shared commitment to investing in the future of our children. Together, we aim to expand the reach and scope of M.A.P.'s and the City's initiatives, benefiting even more young people. The dedication of the M.A.P. team has profoundly impacted many young individuals, fostering creativity, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Through innovative programs, M.A.P. has become a cornerstone of our community, providing a nurturing environment where children can explore their artistic talents and develop important life skills," said City Recreation & Culture Director.

Former City of Alachua recreation director Hal Brady said this program gives more children the chance to succeed in the arts. “This is a great opportunity for children to do something without it costing anything. A lot of people just cannot normally afford this type of program.”  Mr. Brady had nothing but good things to say about Bill and Wilma Rogers and how much they have already been able to do for this community. He said they are a great team and have proven time and again how much they care about the youth in Alachua.  “It doesn’t take a lot when it comes to giving to a great cause. It just takes a caring heart. And that’s where we are", said Wilma.

"The Music and Arts Program is a wonderful asset to our community. It's pleasing to know that youth in our community, regardless of socioeconomic status, have a place to go to enrich their lives with music and culture," said City Manager Traci Cain.  Together, Bill and Wilma aim to provide youth with a trusting environment in which to learn and grow in character, while discovering their gifts, talents and purpose.
